Blackberry Phone as a Modem
I’m writing this note and posting it using my Blackberry and my computer. Not many people know that Blackberries with Sprint have the ability to be used as a broadband wireless modem with a computer. Tethering the device or with bluetooth are common ways to achieve this.
It’s great to able to go anywhere and be connected. I have the world as my office, and it’s much more beautiful than the standard grey cubes at most offices.
This is a great value as Verizon and AT&T often charge premiums for this service. Sprint provides it with the Blackberry data plan. You get 2 great functions in one device.
The speeds are not as fast as a dedicated wireless aircard device, but it works and it’s definitely much faster than dial-up service. Download speed of 397 Kbps from the www.sprint.com/speedtest.
Best of all, when you receive a phone call, the phone will work and stop your Internet connection. When the call is terminated, the Internet connection will resume. You don’t have to worry about missing a call while you are online. A problem with what happened in the old dial up days.
