Sprint has released it’s new rugged line of direct connect phones and it’s been well received.  The Direct Connect service has a less than 1 second delay within the high speed EVDO Rev A. network.  This service will not work in areas outside of Sprint’s Rev A coverage and will not roam with other carriers.

 There are a few practical reasons why you would use direct connect with Sprint. 

1.  It’s the fastest for short communications.  It’s really a better communication experience to get 1 or 2 pieces of information really quickly.  Beep Beep…Did you get the shipment from XYZ yet?  Beep Beep Yes.  This is much faster and convenient communication than waiting for a cell phone dial and waiting for an answer or voicemail return call.  It’s voice IM.

2.  You can get thru to the person you want to reach quickly. With a quick alert to the recipient, you know your beep got thru.  This is an advantage versus voice mail because you know your signal got thru. 

3.  You can talk to many people at once.  This is a great group communications tool.  This is a primary reason many in public safety and first responder situations use Nextel Direct Connect.  “There is a gunman in the library” can be communicated to 20+ key personnel in less than a second.  In short, Nextel Direct connect can save lives.

4.  Your can prioritize the call/alert above other communications.  You can be assured as the group leader your communications have priority over all other calls.  In emergency situations, calls are prioritized for emergency first responder situations.  This allows key people to keep communications open while the cell phone networks get a busy signal.  Verizon, AT&T, or T-Mobile cannot come close to this type of service for emergency situations.

5.  New features make it much more consumer friendly.  You can combine a quick text message with direct connect and send it quickly.  On group calls, you can quickly see who it talking and has the floor.   You can restrict callers to the phone so you can have a communication device that can only call select people.  Nextel Direct Connect works over bluetooth but you still need to hold the phone button down to talk.  Lastly, Sprint Mobile Sync allows you to freely manage your contacts online with the phone and provides administrative access for managing contact lists of several phones.

6.  The price is the best for limited use communication devices.  If you don’t need to give an employee a phone but still need to communicate with them, you can get a restricted Sprint NDC phone.  This will allow you to keep communications with the phone without letting the employee run up the cell phone bill for the company.  This service for a Sprint NDC only phone is only $25.00/month per line for unlimited use.  This can be a great parent restricted phone or emergency phone.

7.  The phones come rugged and can take a beating.  As Nextel Direct Connect is a favorite business feature, these phones are made to military specifications to shock, vibration, and dust.  They are also water resistant.

These seven attributes make Nextel Direct Connect the choice for many businesses, special situations, and public safety personnel.
